Introduction:
While in Sweden, I designed a social impact campaign that championed a product that incites discussion surrounding consent, gender, and sexuality. Alongside a team of three other students, I designed a textile stylized to reflect not only the use of the product, but also the context of the user's life. This project challenged me to think beyond the phase of distribution, and consider the journey of the user at each point of interaction with the product.
“Prada is presenting a new piece of clothing that will “bow” your mind. An elegant piece of couture that drapes so flawlessly over the wearers body that it will quite literally have them begging you to undress them. Inspired by the robes worn by boxers to keep them warm before they enter the ring to fight, this garment too is to be taken off. The large and loose bow draws your attention and is easily untied. In addition, the lettered graphics perhaps give a nudge towards what you are intended to do with the bow... if it wasn’t already clear.
The red rose satin fabric evokes a feeling of passion and lust. The white trim and ribbon, in contrast, present innocence and purity. All of these commands and insinuations may confuse the humble passerby who happens to view someone wearing this piece of clothing. But fear not! If you are feeling confused at all about whether or not you should undress the wearer of this garment, be reassured, it isn't your decision to make.”
